Mesothelioma: Mesothelioma is an uncommon form of cancer, usually associated with prolonged exposure to asbestos, which affects the pleura, a sac which surrounds the lungs, the peritoneum, the lining of the abdominal cavity, or the pericardium, a sac that surrounds the heart. Most people with malignant mesothelioma have worked on jobs where they have breathed asbestos or have been exposed to asbestos in a household environment. Although rare, exposure to asbestos for a period of less than a month can result in mesothelioma much later. Follow Mesothelioma information for more on Mesothelioma and asbestos lung cancer.
